The AI investment committee member: four firms, four jobs
Mubadala, GIC, Schroders Capital and BlackRock have described different jobs for AI in investment committee work. Choose the job, what it sees first and who decides before you add one.

Mubadala's AI at the investment committee argues against the deal. GIC's prototype asks probing questions drawn from the firm's institutional knowledge, Schroders Capital's reviews a draft memo written by another AI, and BlackRock's real estate business planned one as a sounding board. Schroders Capital says people make its investment decisions. Mubadala described its AI as consultative in 2024, and BlackRock described its planned tool as a sounding board in 2025. Mubadala's stated vision is an AI that votes. Before your committee adds one, settle three things: which job it gets, what it sees before the deal team's recommendation, and who decides.
Four jobs, in the firms' own words
The examples give the AI different tasks. Mubadala's works on the deal, GIC's prototype addresses the committee's discussion, Schroders Capital's reviews a memo, and BlackRock described a planned sounding board for members.

Mubadala: the case against the deal
Waleed Al Muhairi, Mubadala's deputy chief executive, told The National in January 2026 that the fund has "a member of our investment committee that is an AI member". It summarises and checks valuation, and he added: "But now we have the counterfactual that gets run; the AI now presents the argument to not do something."
When the plan was announced in December 2024, chief executive Khaldoon Al Mubarak described the AI member as "not in decision-making for the time being, but a consultative co-pilot". Mubadala's own annual review for 2024 goes further and says MAIA "will eventually serve as a voting member on the Investment Committee".
GIC: probing questions from institutional knowledge
GIC's news release of 25 July 2025 describes prototypes built on its own data, including "a virtual investment committee member, which taps on GIC’s institutional knowledge to generate probing questions, challenge assumptions, and surface contrarian insights in real time."
Schroders Capital: a review of the AI analyst's draft
Schroders Capital's investment committee agent works beside GAiiA, its Generative AI Investment Analyst, which drafts investment committee memoranda. The agent reviews GAiiA's preliminary documents and adds insights on sector dynamics, business model considerations and risk factors from the firm's historic investment data. Investment team members then evaluate that feedback and can ask GAiiA for an improved version, which they review again.
The release draws the line in one sentence: "every investment decision at Schroders Capital is made solely by experienced professionals." Nils Rode, its chief investment officer, called the agent a "challenger system".
BlackRock: a sounding board
In January 2025, Paul Tebbit, BlackRock's global co-head of real estate, said the real estate business was finalising an AI member for its investment committee, as Bisnow reported. He described it as "a useful kind of almost sounding board for other investment committee members, seeing what it would come up with independently." He also set the limit: "It could only be a foil and a sounding board, just to see what other views could come up, or the things which you could miss, which it's been able to notice and identify from previous investments."
Three decisions before your committee adds one
Start with the job. A case against the deal gives the committee one argument it has to answer. Probing questions give the meeting a list to work through. A review of a draft memo gives the team feedback before anyone meets. A sounding board offers another view beside the members' own.
Then decide what it sees first. Schroders Capital's agent works on a draft memo, and Mubadala's runs the counterfactual on a deal that has been put forward. Their descriptions do not establish whether the AI first formed its own view before seeing the deal team's recommendation. On Blackstone's AI CIO, the point is that a memo formed from the evidence before it sees the recommendation gives the committee two accounts to compare. A reviewer that only responds to the deal team's case may inherit its framing.
Last, settle who decides. Schroders Capital states its line in one sentence. Mubadala's 2024 annual review describes a future voting role for MAIA. If a committee considers giving an AI a vote, that calls for a governance decision. Keep a record of each objection the AI raised and what the committee did with it, so that after the decision you can judge whether the reviewer earned its place.

For the deal itself, an independent commercial read of the company separates evidence, grounded hypotheses and unknowns before you decide. When the AI sits inside the company you are buying, the questions in AI due diligence on a software company apply.
